# Province is only required for addresses in Spain

`province` is no longer required on an `Address` outside Spain: a foreign customer or inline recipient without one is accepted. A Spanish address without it still answers `422 PROVINCE_EMPTY`.

Many foreign addresses have no province, yet a customer or an inline recipient in France or the United States without `province` was rejected with `422 VALIDATION_ERROR`.

`province` is now required only when the address is in Spain (`country_code` `ES`, or no country). Outside Spain it is optional, and a response carries it only when it was sent.

## What else changed

- **A foreign address without `province` answers `201`** when you create a customer or an invoice with an inline recipient. With a Spanish address it still answers `422 PROVINCE_EMPTY`.
- **Breaking only if you read `province` from a customer echo:** the customer returned as received in `customers_validation` (bulk create and the import previews) can now come without `province` when the customer is foreign.
- **Nothing changes for Spanish addresses**, nor for invoices already issued.
